Ron Sargent, the interim CEO of Kroger and former CEO of Staples, just dropped $11.5 million on former Boston Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca’s Back Bay mansion.

The home, which had a listing price of $10.995 million, generated significant interest, receiving multiple bids, and went under contract within four days, according to a representative for George Sarkis, CEO and co-founder of The Sarkis Team at Douglas Elliman, who had the listing.

Built in 1890, 362 Marlborough St. was originally known as the George Wheatland House. Sitting on a coveted 2,688-square-foot corner lot, the 5,680-square-foot, single-family brownstone was previously a multi-family residence until Pagliuca and his wife, Judy, a biotech investor, transformed the space from 2021 to 2022. They bought the property for $5.1 million in 2015 when it was configured as two condominiums.

“This was a custom for them. This wasn’t a spec. They poured their heart and soul into this,” Sarkis told Boston.com when the property hit the market in October. “There were no expenses spared here.”

A heated front walkway leads to the front steps of the four-bed, seven-bath (three full, four-half) brownstone and to the first level, which functions as a hosting area with a formal living room, dining room, and butler’s kitchen.

The top floor consists of the primary suite, a private oasis filled with natural light, and a two-sided fireplace. An elevator connects the floors.

Boasting craftsmanship and custom millwork, the home’s modern finishes are sleek and timeless. Elevator access throughout the property provides ample accessibility.
