One of the fastest-growing sports in America took center stage on Sunday as San Diego hosted the USA Pickleball National Championships.
The event took place over the course of eight days, with several of the final matches being played over the weekend.
Sofia Sewing took home gold in the Pro Women’s Singles draw. The former professional tennis player turned pro in pickleball earlier this year, and she’s already thriving early on in her career.
Katerina Stewart earned silver after coming up short against Sewing in the title match.
On the men’s singles side, Patrick Kawka beat Ronan Camron 6-11, 11-0, 11-6 to earn gold.
Sewing wasn’t done after her women’s singles title, as she also won the Pro Mixed Doubles Championship alongside her partner, Casey Diamond.
On Sunday, Richard Livornese and Jack Munro won gold in Pro Mens Doubles with a score of 11-8, 4-11, 11-6.
Professional pickleball players weren’t the only athletes in action in San Diego over the weekend. Legendary quarterback Drew Brees showed up at the event to participate in an exhibition match on Friday.
If Brees’ precision on the football field translates to the court, he’s probably quite the player.
