The game of the night saw two undefeated NEPSAC Class A powers, Dexter Southfield and Avon Old Farms, go head-to-head in a back-and-forth battle eventually won by the Winged Beavers, 29-28. Matthew Baer had three touchdowns for AOF, while Dexter sophomore Rory Funke also scored three times.

Highlighting the rest of Saturday’s football results were a few outstanding individual performances:

    ▪ Lynn English senior Shane Knowlton-Simard, a 6-foot-3-inch, 180-pound quarterback, dominated a 50-35 win over Everett, rushing 19 times for 319 yards and six touchdowns. His final score, a 68-yard gallop, gave the Bulldogs a two-score lead with 1:40 to play.

    ▪ Milton Academy’s Qur’an McNeill threw five touchdown passes — three in the second quarter alone — to lead the Mustangs past Belmont Hill, 42-22. Tabor’s junior QB Peter Bourque also had a big day, completing 22 of 35 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-24 come-from-behind win over St. Paul’s (N.H.). Kaiden Drinkwater caught 10 of those passes for 198 yards.

    ▪ Nantucket, which remained undefeated (7-0) with a 34-14 win over Sandwich, captured the Cape & Islands crown on the back of two Jeremy Jenkinson interceptions and two Burke Lombardi touchdown passes.

    ▪ Roger Williams senior Emma Bosco, a North Andover graduate, recorded her 1,000th collegiate assist Saturday in a 3-1 loss to Wentworth. Bosco’s 33 assists pushed her past 1,000, and she added nine digs nad two aces.

    ▪ On Monday, in a 3-2 girls’ volleyball loss to East Bridgewater, Norwell senior Keira Deeney recorded her 500th career kill.

    ▪ Belmont Hill eighth-grade linebacker Wes Peterson, a Weston resident, has been invited to the Under Armour Next 8th Grade All-American game, scheduled for December in Orlando.

No fewer than eight conference cross-country championships were held Saturday across the Commonwealth.

    ▪ In the Bay State boys’ race, Brookline won the title with 34 points, finishing ahead of Natick (46) and Wellesley (86) thanks to Liam Hartmann’s second-place finish in 15:36.8 and Theodore Butty’s third-place showing (15:37.9). Natick’s John Bianchi won in 15:26.3.

    ▪ Newton North (53 points) won the Bay State girls’ championship, ahead of Needham (67) and Wellesley (105). Needham’s Greta Hammer won the race in 17:10.1, a full 87 seconds ahead of Newton North’s Esty Dudnik in second place (18:37.3).

    ▪ Sandwich (15 points) swept the top five spots at the Cape & Islands Atlantic Championship, paced by Kylee Beaudoin (19:31.6). Martha’s Vineyard won the C&I Atlantic boys’ title with 37 points, ahead of Sandwich (66) and Falmouth (67). Luis Costa led Martha’s Vineyard with a second-place finish (16:27.1), trailing Falmouth’s Silas Gartner (15:54.4).

    ▪ In the Cape & Islands Lighthouse championship, Sturgis West nipped Nantucket, 48-49, for the boys’ team title, with Monomoy (63) in third. Sturgis West’s Cal O’Donnell won the race in 16:30. Sturgis East won the girls’ competition (15) with Tallulah Clifford finishing second in 18:45.9 behind Falmouth Academy’s Elise Casso (18:30.5).

    ▪ The Hamilton-Wenham girls’ won a Cape Ann League championship with 48 points, besting Newburyport (60) and Essex Tech (96). H-W’s Grace Rich (18:37.1) and Asa Labell (18:53.9) finished first and second, respectively. It was a Generals sweep as the H-W boys clipped Newburyport, 49-51, for the Cape Ann crown, while Manchester-Essex placed third (95). Newburyport’s Michael Mohoric won the race (15:45.7) and H-W’s Cole Regan was second (16:25.5).

    ▪ Canton captured the Hockomock girls’ crown with 29 points, easily beating King Philip (60) and Oliver Ames (67). Canton’s Lauren Raffetto was a 33-second winner in 18:30.3. Oliver Ames was the boys’ team champ with 27 points, far ahead of Franklin (88) and Mansfield (105). ▪ The Lowell boys (42 points) outpaced North Andover (51) and Billerica (75) to claim the Merrimack Valley Conference championship. Billerica’s Mason Niles (15:54) was the individual champ, finishing ahead of Lowell’s James Kelly (16:06) in second. Billerica won the girls’ crown with just 23 points, pulling away from Central Catholic (89) and North Andover (96) by placing seven runners in the top 10, led by Kylie Donahue’s second-place finish (18:46), just four seconds behind winner Kyla Breslin (18:42) of Central Catholic.

    ▪ The Patriot League boys’ team title went to Plymouth South (37 points) ahead of Marshfield (75). Pembroke’s Nate Palmieri won the race in 15:52.6, followed by Plymouth South’s Anthony Lyons (16:00.5). ▪ With a 5-0 win over Nantucket, the Martha’s Vineyard girls’ soccer team captured the first league title in the program’s 40-year history, winning the Cape & Islands with a 10-1-1 league mark. Lucy Doyle made four saves for the team’s 10th shutout of the season, and Leah Thomson scored three times.

    ▪ The Bishop Feehan boys’ soccer team locked up the Catholic Central League crown and completed an undefeated league slate with a 7-0 win over Arlington on Friday. Sam Shaghalian and Callum Holmes had three goals apiece.
