WESTFIELD — For the second year in a row, the Western Massachusetts Charity Drive is proving that giving back to the community can be just as fun as it is meaningful.

On Friday, Nov. 1, the nonprofit will host its annual FunnyRaising Comedy Show at the East Mountain Country Club in Westfield, with proceeds benefiting three local organizations chosen by WMCD’s youth volunteers.

“As we looked at ideas for fundraisers, we knew we wanted to host an event that emphasizes the mission of our organization: showing youth that giving back can be fun and rewarding,” said Dominic Monti, WMCD’s marketing manager. “Although we like to make all of our events fun, partnering with Jess Miller and FunnyRaising Comedy Shows was the perfect way to bring together the community in a fun way. We hope that those who attend our comedy show see why having fun while giving back is so important.”

This year’s lineup will feature comedians Alan Moreau, Darren Rivera, and Kim Deshields, ensuring a fresh experience for both returning and new guests. The evening will also include a raffle with baskets for every interest, from cozy nights in to adventurous outings. For those looking to make it a full night out, the country club will offer an optional buffet dinner at 6:45 p.m. for an additional $15, along with a cash bar. The event is ages 21 and up.

The show’s proceeds will support three local nonprofits selected by WMCD’s team of students in grades 6–12: Brittney’s Believers, which raises awareness for childhood cancer; Rick’s Place, providing grief support to children and families; and Rachel’s Table, which combats food insecurity.

“Because of the incredible support of corporate sponsors, all the money we raise at fundraisers directly benefits these local charities each year,” Monti explained. “It’s what makes this work so fun and fulfilling.”

Monti added that a comedy show offers a special way to bring people together. “We know there’s a lot going on in the world, and comedy shows are the perfect way to relieve that stress for a night. This event allows us to come together with our friends and family, and to learn how much we have in common through the joy of laughter. Plus, you can meet others who are sitting with you and build connections with your neighbors.”

Last year’s inaugural comedy night raised over $4,500 in just a few hours, a success Monti says the organization hopes to build upon this fall. Local businesses have already stepped up as sponsors, including Westfield Bank, Symetra Life Insurance, and Firtion Adams Funeral Service.

The event serves as a high-energy kickoff for WMCD’s busiest season, leading into their annual 25-hour fundraiser in February.

“We hope everyone enjoys the chance to unwind and relax, but also to learn about WMCD’s mission,” Monti said. “Hopefully, our mission will speak to them, and if we get a few new members on board, that is certainly an incredible bonus to the money raised that night.”

For those unable to attend the comedy show, WMCD has a full calendar of events, including Curry Honda Chicopee’s Car Show on Oct. 19, a pancake breakfast on Dec. 13, and a murder mystery dinner on Jan. 31.

Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available at wmcd.org.
