Junior Sam Siegal had never scored in a varsity game for Canton boys’ soccer entering a Hockomock matchup with Taunton. He sure picked the right time to change that.
With 10 seconds remaining and the game knotted, Siegal’s goal sent the Bulldogs (4-3-2) to a 4-3 victory.

▪ Hall of Fame Weymouth boys’ soccer coach Bill McEachern notched his 300th career win when the Wildcats defeated Needham, 1-0, on Tuesday. McEachern, who played at Weymouth North and Springfield College, has been at Weymouth for 18 years after coaching Braintree for 10 seasons. He was inducted into the Eastern Mass. Coaches Association Hall of Fame earlier this year. He coached Weymouth to the Division 1 semifinals in 2022 and 2023 and won the D1 South sectional title in 2007.
▪ Rockport sophomore Nolan Bace tied the school record with three birdies and a 2-under-par 33 at Rockport Golf Club, which helped the Vikings (10-3) score a school-record 187 points in a 54-point win over Amesbury.
▪ Mystic Valley senior forward Lucia Antonucci’s hat trick on Monday gave her 100 career goals. A senior captain who has been playing varsity since seventh grade, Antonucci now has 20 goals this season for the Eagles (6-0).
▪ John Fleming, who coaches Winchester girls’ volleyball, boys’ basketball, and boys’ volleyball, won his 250th game at the helm of the girls’ volleyball program on Monday, defeating Belmont, 3-0. In his 16th season coaching girls’ volleyball, he has six league titles and reached the 2019 Division 1 final. He has more than 600 wins across all sports.
▪ Attleboro senior Haley Carter posted 35 assists, including the 1,000th of her career, in a 3-0 win over North Attleborough on Monday.
▪ Sophomore Gabi Lorenzini set St. Mary’s school records with 17 kills and 17 digs during a 3-1 Monday win over Malden Catholic.
▪ Calvary Chapel sophomore captain Colbie Adams surpassed 200 career aces with five during a 3-0 win over Cathedral on Monday.
▪ After leading Georgetown softball to the 2024 Division 5 championship game, and following that up with a Cape Ann Baker division title and 20-4 record last spring, coach Jay Santomassino is stepping down due to scheduling conflicts. The Royals were 6-22 over his first two seasons and 46-19 over the last three, for a 52-41 overall record.
Bryan Aylward’s 200th win as Tewksbury football coach on Friday night in a thrilling win over Lowell resulted in the New England Patriots Coach of the Week honor.
Aylward, who has coached the Redmen (3-0) since 1996, led a 25-21 win that saw Will Harrison find Ben Christopher for a 1-yard TD pass with 11 seconds left for a 25-21 victory. Harrison finished with 237 passing yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 72 yards and two scores.
“Aylward’s 200th win is a milestone that reflects not only his skill as a coach, but his impact as a leader and mentor,” said Patriots Hall of Fame linebacker Andrew Tippet, who presented the program with a check for $1,000 from the Patriots Charitable Foundation and the Kraft family. “I’ve always admired the way he builds young men of character while consistently putting a competitive, disciplined team on the field. This achievement is an inspiration to players, coaches and the entire Tewksbury community. I’m proud to congratulate him on reaching this incredible mark.”
▪ Bates senior Brooke Moloney-Kolenberg, a Winchester High graduate, was named NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week after scoring twice in a come-from-behind win over Bowdoin. She netted the equalizer off a penalty corner in the 60th minute to force overtime, then scored the winner, 4-3, in the extra session to complete a comeback from down 3-0. She followed that up with an assist in a 2-1 win over Amherst. Moloney-Kolenberg leads the team in assists (4) and is tied for the lead in goals (4) for the undefeated Bobcats (8-0), who are ranked No. 7 in the nation.
▪ UMass Dartmouth freshman Mya Dean, a Middleborough graduate, was named Little East Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Dean helped the Corsairs to a 2-1 week, winning at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles against Western New England and Plymouth State.
▪ Northeastern junior Eliza Teplow, a Nobles graduate from Wellesley, was named CAA Women’s Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week after the goalkeeper posted her first shutout of the season in a 0-0 draw with Drexel. She stopped four shots and is second in the CAA with 49 total saves.
▪ Wheaton senior Aidan Doyle, a Thayer graduate from Kingston, was named NEWMAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in his career. Doyle netted a pair of goals and assisted on the game-tying tally in a 3-3 draw with No. 18 Brandeis. He leads the NEWMAC this season with seven goals.
▪ Lehigh senior Geoffrey Jamiel, a Deerfield Academy graduate from West Yarmouth, was named Patriot League Football Offensive Player of the Week after catching eight passes for 132 yards and a touchdown in a 44-30 victory over Penn. He also rushed for a 20-yard TD on a fake field goal and is third in the Patriot League with 457 rushing yards during Lehigh’s 5-0 start.
▪ Skidmore freshman David Zampese, a Marblehead graduate, was dubbed Liberty League Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week, getting called into action against St. Lawrence and making four big saves in a 2-0 shutout. It was the first victory of his career.
▪ Holy Cross junior Maguire Sturgis, a Masconomet graduate from Topsfield, was named Patriot League field hockey honorable mention this week after scoring the tying and winning goals in a 2-1 victory over Georgetown.
▪ Dartmouth senior Sud Zhao, a Lexington High graduate, was named Athlete of the Week alongside sailing teammate Olivia Drulard after winning the B Division during the first round of the women’s Atlantic Coach Championship, posting 24 total points to help the Big Green to a first-place overall finish. Zhao and Drulard won five of their nine races.
▪ Providence freshman Ava Porter, a Somerset resident who attended Moses Brown (R.I.), was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll after the field hockey goalie posted a 2-0 record and did not yield a goal in more than 116 minutes of action. Through nine games, Porter leads the Big East in save percentage (.776) while playing a league-high 554 minutes in net.
