    Powell signals possible Fed rate cut in September

    Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell opened the door to a September interest rate cut, asserting that “downside risks to employment are rising.”

    Thinking of applying for a new job? Some places to work are better than others.

    Forbes just released a list of “America’s Best Employers by State,” based on factors like wage parity, work culture, paths to professional advancement, and whether the employer takes action on serious issues.

    This was done in partnership with Statista to survey more than 160,000 employees who work for companies of at least 500 people. Their responses were tallied and incorporated into a scoring system with survey data from the past three years.

    In total, 1,417 companies made it onto at least one of Forbes’ state lists. Some employers were ranked in multiple states, the magazine said.

    Check out the top companies to work for in Massachusetts, according to Forbes.

    The Forbes state rankings look at all companies that do business in Massachusetts, including those not based here.

    Here are the top 20 employers for employees in Massachusetts:

    2. Microsoft (IT Software & Services) – Headquartered in Redmond, Washington
    3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Education) – Headquartered in Cambridge
    4. Delta Air Lines (Transportation & Logistics) – Headquartered in Atlanta
    5. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Healthcare & Social Services) – Headquartered in Boston
    6. Trader Joe’s (Retail & Wholesale) – Headquartered in Monrovia, California
    7. Boston Scientific (Medical Equipment & Services) – Headquartered in Marlborough
    8. Siemens (Engineering, Manufacturing) – Headquartered in Washington, D.C.
    9. Marriott International (Travel & Leisure) – Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland
    10. Apple (Semiconductors, Electronics, Electrical Engineering) – Headquartered in Cupertino, California

    Earlier this year, Forbes also ranked the best large employers (that employ more than 5,000 people) across the nation.
