MLB insider predicts Red Sox manager Alex Cora will be a finalist for prestigious coaching award originally appeared on The Sporting News

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has been a staple of the team since 2018, when he led the franchise to their ninth World Series title. Now, he’s leading them to another possible playoff run, as long as the team pulls themselves together.

MLB insider Jim Bowden thinks Cora will be recognized for his efforts this season. While he won’t win Manager of the Year, he’ll be a finalist and come in third, behind Detroit Tigers’ A.J. Hinch and Toronto Blue Jays’ John Schneider.

“Schneider and Cora have done similarly impressive jobs with the teams they’ve skippered as well, with Schneider on track to lead the Blue Jays back to the postseason after a difficult 2024 season and Cora keeping the Red Sox in the thick of the postseason race in the competitive AL East,” Bowden wrote.

This will be Cora’s second time as a finalist, with the first being back in 2018 when the Sox won a franchise-best 108 games and won the World Series.

Will Cora ever get the coveted award? Maybe next year, as he could have won it this year if the Sox didn’t collapse in the final push. If the Sox can somehow make the World Series next year, and win more than 95 games, he should definitely get the nod. After all, the third time’s the charm.
