Oregon track stars in Tokyo: Which Ducks will compete in World Athletics Championships?

The Oregon track and field program was well-represented in the women’s 1,500-meter Olympic final during the 2024 Paris Summer Games.

Former Duck Jessica Hull raced to a silver-medal finish for Australia, her former teammate Susan Ejore from Kenya was sixth and Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska, who was weeks away from starting her senior season at Oregon, placed 10th in the 12-woman race.

Those three will be back on the international stage having qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, a 10-day meet that will run Sept. 13-21 at Japan National Stadium.

Because Tokyo is 16 hours ahead of the Pacific time zone, the meet actually begins at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, with the men’s and women’s 35K race walks.

Most track finals will take place between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. and will be streamed live on Peacock. NBC, CNBC and USA Network will provide additional coverage.

Hull, Ejore and Kazimierska will have a few more familiar faces joining them this week as current Ducks Silan Ayyildiz (Turkey), Wilma Nielsen (Sweden) and Mia Barnett (Sweden) are also entered in the 1,500, as is 2025 Eastern Kentucky transfer Bahiya El Arfaoui of Morocco.

Overall, there are 14 former or current Ducks entered in the meet, as well as two others who will join Oregon for the first time in the fall, and a couple of Oregon State track alums.
